We’re excited to share highlights from our recent visit to DSST Aurora Science & Technology Middle School, where the Crazy Hair Alpacas joined approximately 200 students in celebrating the end of the school year!
Throughout the day, primarily 6th-grade students – along with additional students from grades 7–12 joining as excitement spread across campus – had the opportunity to meet and interact with Andrea Blocher’s sweet and gentle alpacas. For many students, it was their very first alpaca experience!
Andrea also led a hands-on pinecone craft activity, teaching students how to wrap alpaca fiber around the pinecone to offer as nesting material for birds as spring begins. The activity encouraged creativity while helping students learn more about these unique animals and the positive connections they can inspire.
Students were also invited to reflect on the prompt, “Share a moment when you felt connected to an animal.” Their heartwarming responses highlighted the comfort, joy, and companionship within special connections between children and animals.
