At CBR YouthConnect, resilience grows through creative partnerships and meaningful connections. Recently, we witnessed a powerful example through a HERO-WITHIN award inspired by a young donor named Quinn. As part of his Bar Mitzvah service project, Quinn — a passionate baseball player — chose to raise funds so another young person could have the opportunity to play the sport he loves. “I love baseball and wanted to give someone else the opportunity to play.” He entrusted CBR YouthConnect to help turn that generosity into impact.
Through our local relationships, we connected with Golden High School and were introduced to Ryan, a senior who needed help covering his baseball team fees. Ryan’s journey hasn’t been easy. After being forced to step away from the game for three years due to a heart condition, he never gave up. His coach, Jackie, shared: “Ryan stayed committed, showed up for his team, and kept working to get back on the field. Through it all, he’s shown incredible character, resilience, and a true love for the game. His presence has made a lasting impact on and off the field.” Ryan’s resilience, combined with his great personality and willingness to work, is the recipe for thriving.
There was a triple youth benefit in this story: the young leader who raised the HERO-WITHIN award funds, Ryan who returned to the field for his senior season, and his Golden High School teammates who welcomed and supported him. One service project became a senior season — and a community strengthened. This is how CBR YouthConnect does its work: connecting youth to opportunity in creative, responsive ways that allow resilience to turn into real, tangible outcomes.
